We need to realize that there is another world out there. the enemies that we fight are not people but those of the spiritual realm. To defeat the enemy we need to fight them with the right weapons and these are seen in he full armor of God. Remember Paul was under house arrest in Rome and he had a chance to study the armor of the Roman guard. Each piece of armor has a specific purpose just as ecah piece of spiritual armor that we wear has a specific purpose. For more details see the commentaries.

Verse to meditate on: 10Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
