<U><B>HEBREWS</B></U><BR> </H2>
Background:<br>
Why written: To show us the all sufficiency and superiority of Jesus Christ.<br>
Who wrote Hebrews? No body knows: there are speculation that someone who knew Hebrew Scriptures wrote it. It could be Paul, Barnabs, Silas, Apollos. Whoever wrote it spoke of Timothy as 'brother' (Hebrews 13.23).<br>
To whom was it written: to Hebrew Christians who may have considered going back to Judaism because of lack of understnding of the Old testament. It is applicable today to all Christians.<br>
When written: Sometime before 70 A.D. because the sacrifices and ceremony were mentioned in the book.<br>
Historical Background: The Hebrew Christians were undergoing many persecution. There was warning against spiritual unbelief (Hebrews 2.1-4; 3.7-4.14; 5.12-6.20; 10.19-39; 12.12-29). They needed assurance in that uncertain time that Christ was all they needed and that He was superior to the Jewish sacrificial  system and ceremonies.<br>
