2For they have taken of their daughters for themselves, and for their sons: so that the holy seed have mingled themselves with the people of those lands: yea, the hand of the princes and rulers hath been chief in this trespass.
3And when I heard this thing, I rent my garment and my mantle, and plucked off the hair of my head and of my beard, and sat down astonied.
4Then were assembled unto me every one that trembled at the words of the God of Israel, because of the transgression of those that had been carried away; and I sat astonied until the evening sacrifice.
5And at the evening sacrifice I arose up from my heaviness; and having rent my garment and my mantle, I fell upon my knees, and spread out my hands unto the LORD my God,
6And said, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift up my face to thee, my God: for our iniquities are increased over our head, and our trespass is grown up unto the heavens.
7Since the days of our fathers have we been in a great trespass unto this day; and for our iniquities have we, our kings, and our priests, been delivered into the hand of the kings of the lands, to the sword, to captivity, and to a spoil, and to confusion of face, as it is this day.
8And now for a little space grace hath been shewed from the LORD our God, to leave us a remnant to escape, and to give us a nail in his holy place, that our God may lighten our eyes, and give us a little reviving in our bondage.
9For we were bondmen; yet our God hath not forsaken us in our bondage, but hath extended mercy unto us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.
10And now, O our God, what shall we say after this? for we have forsaken thy commandments,
11Which thou hast commanded by thy servants the prophets, saying, The land, unto which ye go to possess it, is an unclean land with the filthiness of the people of the lands, with their abominations, which have filled it from one end to another with their uncleanness.
12Now therefore give not your daughters unto their sons, neither take their daughters unto your sons, nor seek their peace or their wealth for ever: that ye may be strong, and eat the good of the land, and leave it for an inheritance to your children for ever.
13And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;
14Should we again break thy commandments, and join in affinity with the people of these abominations? wouldest not thou be angry with us till thou hadst consumed us, so that there should be no remnant nor escaping?
15O LORD God of Israel, thou art righteous: for we remain yet escaped, as it is this day: behold, we are before thee in our trespasses: for we cannot stand before thee because of this.
Ezra was a man of prayer. he not only prayed but he also carried through with his prayerThis is a prayer of confession that we need to pray to God daily. We must not only confess our sins but also repent. Parying is NOT good enough unless there is true repentance. Ezra instructed the people in Ezra 10 to leave their heathen wives and children IF they did not turn to the Lord God. How seriously do you take your prayers? Is it just lip service to ease your conscience or is it a genuine repentance with the aim of restoring and restoration?
Romans 16.20The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. (NIV) The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.
What an amazing prayer of benediction that Paul gave the Romans! do you believe God is all-powerful and all knowing among the world's woes and troubles. well, Good news, Jesus is coming back soon and all the evil will be dsetroyed. Just like how it takes time for a fruit to ripen before it is plucked and eaten, so is God allowing the evil and wickedness to ripen before he crushes Satan under his feet.
5And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of the LORD, before the new court,
6And said, O LORD God of our fathers, art not thou God in heaven? and rulest not thou over all the kingdoms of the heathen? and in thine hand is there not power and might, so that none is able to withstand thee?
7Art not thou our God, who didst drive out the inhabitants of this land before thy people Israel, and gavest it to the seed of Abraham thy friend for ever?
8And they dwelt therein, and have built thee a sanctuary therein for thy name, saying,
9If, when evil cometh upon us, as the sword, judgment, or pestilence, or famine, we stand before this house, and in thy presence, (for thy name is in this house,) and cry unto thee in our affliction, then thou wilt hear and help.
10And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom thou wouldest not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and destroyed them not;
11Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of thy possession, which thou hast given us to inherit.
12O our God, wilt thou not judge them? for we have no might against this great company that cometh against us; neither know we what to do: but our eyes are upon thee.
13And all Judah stood before the LORD, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.
14Then upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, came the Spirit of the LORD in the midst of the congregation;
15And he said, Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou king Jehoshaphat, Thus saith the LORD unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's.
16To morrow go ye down against them: behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and ye shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel.
17Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.
18And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before the LORD, worshipping the LORD.
Jehoshapat was facing a Moab-Assyrian invasion. He turned to God in prayer, and acknowleged who God was. He interceded on behalf of Judah. God answered his prayer and Moab and Amnon was defeated. Jehoshapat returned in triumph and they ransacked the camps of the enemies. They were not only willing to pray but they were ready to do something about the prayer. We have many Christians in churches who think praying is a magic formula or rubbing the genie's lamp but they fail to understand that obedience goes hand in hand with prayer.
7:1 Yahweh, my God, I take refuge in you. Save me from all those who pursue me, and deliver me, 7:2 lest they tear apart my soul like a lion, ripping it in pieces, while there is none to deliver. 7:3 Yahweh, my God, if I have done this, if there is iniquity in my hands, 7:4 if I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me (yes, if I have delivered him who without cause was my adversary), 7:5 let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it; yes, let him tread my life down to the earth, and lay my glory in the dust. Selah. 7:6 Arise, Yahweh, in your anger. Lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries. Awake for me. You have commanded judgment. 7:7 Let the congregation of the peoples surround you. Rule over them on high. 7:8 Yahweh administers judgment to the peoples. Judge me, Yahweh, according to my righteousness, and to my integrity that is in me. 7:9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish the righteous; their minds and hearts are searched by the righteous God. 7:10 My shield is with God, who saves the upright in heart. 7:11 God is a righteous judge, yes, a God who has indignation every day. 7:12 If a man doesn't relent, he will sharpen his sword; he has bent and strung his bow. 7:13 He has also prepared for himself the instruments of death. He makes ready his flaming arrows. 7:14 Behold, he travails with iniquity. Yes, he has conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood. 7:15 He has dug a hole, and has fallen into the pit which he made. 7:16 The trouble he causes shall return to his own head. His violence shall come down on the crown of his own head. 7:17 I will give thanks to Yahweh according to his righteousness, and will sing praise to the name of Yahweh Most High.

This was a meditation by David, which he sang to Yahweh, concerning the words of Cush, the Benjamite. David was facing danger from an enemy. We have many enemies in our lives. Some spiritual, some physical (man and nature). We need to focus on God and He will protect us.
2 Chronicles 14.11And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let no man prevail against thee.
12So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
13And Asa and the people that were with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
When you are in despair and in pain or trouble? When you feel overwhelmed with life problems, who do you turn to? Do what Asa did, he turned to the Lord God!
