Elijah
Today's reading 1 Kings 19
King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links: 1Kings 19
In 1Kings 19, Elijah had experienced the victory over the prophets of Baal but became afraid for his life when Jezebel told him that she would kill him. Elijah ran for his life. He wanted to die. An angel came to minister to him and gave him food. He traveled to Horeb for forty days and night where he spent the night in a cave, the Lord appeared to Elijah, through a great and powerful wind, earthquake, a fire and then through a gentle whisper. Elijah had the idea that he was the only one serving the Lord! God pointed out to him that he had seven thousand in Israel who did not serve or worship Baal!! God told Elijah to make Jehu king of Israel, Hazael king of Aram and anoint Elisha to succeed Elijah as prophet.
Be careful of a mountain top experience, such as spiritual victory in your life, because there is a possibility of a fall! When the adrenaline stops flowing after a hard task, it is possible for the body to crash, like the case of Elijah. God provided for Elijah's needs where he was at. He gave him something to eat and drink and for him to rest. We are not the only ones doing a particular ministry, that is why we should not feel alone, we are not the Lone Ranger doing it all by ourselves! We are not indispensible, behind every Moses there is a Joshua, behind every Elijah, there is an Elisha!

Today's Reading Acts 12
Acts 12.1-23
Herod put to death James, the brother of JOhn. He was the first apostke to be martyed The Greek word martus signifies a witness who testifies to a fact of which he
has knowledge from personal observation. This is how we got the word martyr! Janes was a faithful eye-witness of the Lord. Peter was imprisoned by Herod, but he had a miraculous escape from prison. We need to understand that when our time is come to meet the Lord, then it will happen! It happened for James but not for Peter!
Do you beliebe in angels? They are God's messengers and angels to minister to us. An angel minister to Elijah when he fled from Jezebel and an angel freed Peter from prison

Herod faced a gruesome death because he was not humble and thought that he was a god, so an angel struck him! He reaped what he sowed (Galatians 6.7).
In Acts 12 verse to meditate on: 24But the word of God continued to increase and spread.

Readings from Psalms 136
This is a psalm of thanksgiving to God. Please note the repeating phrase 'His love endures forever'. Another repaeting phrase is 'Give thanks to': the Lord (v. 1); God of gods (v.2); Lord of lords (v.3) another phrase 'to him who' or 'who'. This psalms is so rich about the attributes of God. When we are depressed about our life, we should read this psalm and focus on God rather than on ourselves and our troubles.
Verse to meditate on:
1 Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
3 Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.

Proverbs 17, with Commentaries, verse by verse
Proverbs 17.14-15
Before we start a quarrel, let us put to heart what it says in verse 14. In verse 15 that was what was done to the Lord Jesus. Barabbas was released and Jesus was condemned.
When a dam is breached, there is no way to hold the water back and there would be massive destruction. We saw how the levies broke when hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in 2005. In the same way, our words can create massive damages in our relationships.
Maybe this was where we got the expression 'a fool and his money is soon parted.
